GEWPennState 2016 has ended
Global Entrepreneurship Week Penn State celebrates the Community of Entrepreneurship. Penn State and the communities surrounding the campuses that are emerging as a vibrant collective of independent thinkers who work together to get important things done. This is the vision of community enabling a better world through collective effort.

At University Park each day has a theme: Go Freelance!, Social Entrepreneurship, Intrapreneurship Innovation, Entrepreneurial Women, Start-Up Shake-Up.  Keynotes are from noon-1:00 (except Wednesday) and master classes follow the keynotes. Perspective Panels, 3-5 experienced entrepreneurs talk about their successes and failures, are held from 3:00-4:00. From 4:30 to 6:30 every day you will find workshops.  New Leaf Initiative  sponsors networking opportunities every day from 6:30-8:00 followed by Flavor Flights, sponsored by the CBICC, every evening from 8:00-9:30.

Dan Deaver

Dr. Deaver is vice president of non-clinical R&D at Alkermes. He leads the Life Science and Toxicology group within the Alkermes R&D organization. Prior to joining Alkermes in 1999, Dr. Deaver spent 16 years on the faculty of Penn State where he was a tenured professor of reproductive physiology. He joined Alkermes in 1999 as director of Life Sciences.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Deaver has focused on innovative and interdisciplinary approaches in the Life Sciences. In addition to his academic and research responsibilities at Penn State, he served as chair of the Inter-College Graduate Program in Physiology and associate director of the Center for Cell Research at Penn State. He is a charter member of the Life Sciences Consortium Committee at Penn State.

 

Dr. Deaver is a named inventor on four issued U.S. patents. One of these patents is the basis for the FDA–approved veterinary product OvuGel, marketed by JBS United Animal Health. According to Penn State’s Technology Transfer Office, OvuGel is the only FDA–approved product (animal or human) based on a Penn State patent. Two of the other issued patents relate to drugs currently being evaluated in phase 2 and 3 clinical trials by Alkermes for treatment of depression and schizophrenia. In addition to the issued patents, he is an inventor on another 15 patent applications.

 

Dr. Deaver received his B.S. (with highest honors) and M.S. degrees from the University of Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. from West Virginia University where his research efforts focused on the neuroendocrine control of mammalian reproduction. He has also served as a consultant for the International Atomic Energy Agency.
